Which Foods Are Constipation Causes?

Unmentionable symptom - unspoken distress

Constipation causes pain, embarrassment and even serious damage to the intestine. Not to mention extreme frustration. Sometimes we are aware which foods are constipation causes, or at least have our suspicions. But isn't it better to know for sure?

Use our unique Symptoms Matrix to figure out which food it could be.

FACTS ABOUT THE CAUSES OF CONSTIPATION

Lack of exercise and certain medications are part of the problem. But one of the most common constipation causes is Food Intolerance. Not to be confused with a food allergy (which is an autoimmune response of the body), food intolerance is a physical inability of some people to process certain foods.

Food IntolerancePrevalence

Fructose or Sugar sensitivity ~35% 1 in 3 people
Food allergy ~1% 1 in 100 people

If you are one of the 75% of people who are affected by food intolerance, it makes sense to investigate - doesn't it? Untreated food intolerance is the cause of many serious Health Risks later in life.

There is only one failsafe and accurate way to identify food intolerance and that's by doing an Elimination Diet.

The reason constipation causes can be difficult to nail down is because the reaction may happen many days after the action. That means whatever causes your constipation on Tuesday could well have something to do with what you ate on the weekend.

With Dairy Intolerance for example the intestine simply cannot produce the right enzyme (lactase) to do the chemical breakdown.

With Gluten intolerance the Gluten protein actually attacks the lining of the intestine. For further information check out:

Gluten - the Protein with Teeth.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome includes constipation and its partner-in-crime diarrhea in alternating bouts, along with the added extras of abdominal bloating, pain, anal inflammation and flatulence.

You are not alone! Millions of people all around the world suffer from constipation. Obviously constipation is always food related. But other factors like stress, lack of exercise and medications can impact enormously.

However the most telling reason that constipation is so common is because it is so unmentionable. We talk freely about waxing the bikini line, penile dysfunction or a routine liposuction. But we don't mention the C word (constipation).

Most of us suffer in silence. We smile as we suppress the desperate urge to go to the toilet - it's a waste of time; not wearing a belt or tailored clothes because they don't fit; and in denial about those gurgling stomach sounds.

Constipation is therefore known as the unmentionable symptom which causes unspoken distress.
